    Poem: Tepid – 01/10/21

I remember when life was tepid, unenthusiastic,
    carried little warmth,
    I remember being feeling disconnected
from the world in and of itself,
that I was a victim of many circumstances,
    not one,
    that others were targeting me,
I was unlucky or such or some,
    I remember feeling different,
that I was never accepted that much,
    never right,
    never really enough.

But today, I realise it’s taken a turnaround,
life experiences, changes of thoughts and memories,
    interpretations of many instances,
I’m not hung, nor swinging in the trees,
feeling distress or like I am lacking
    in certain privileges or others,
in fact, I’ve been blessed with much in this life,
now that I can see, now that I’ve acknowledged,
    now that I’ve bothered.

No longer feeling a victim of my thoughts,
depression and sadness do not loom,
they do not encompass my bedroom, my breath,
do not taint as though a noxious gloom,
in fact, I am grateful for so many things,
friends, life, family, happiness, small things that others won’t,
can neither personally feel nor see,
for I am flying, free as a bird,
in my emotions I am soaring high with my wings.

The enormity of the understanding that I needed to
    change my thought patterns,
that I just had to alter my wingspan to catch the wind
of others’ perspectives, learnings to carry upon myself,
to be absorbed by my ears, dutifully heard,
and carried through to my heart,
feel the beat-beating like a drum,
    reminding me I am alive,
I have survived so much and now,
I am here for the joyous ride.

Tepid no longer is life to me,
I am grateful, so gracious in accepting what is
    presented to me,
I shall make the most of every opportunity,
and learn from the mistakes I make,
alter belief patterns if need be,
and continue on being the change,
    that my life
needed to inhale, exhale, with deep relaxation,
    I heavily sigh,
    freedom of choice,
    of living is awaiting me,
wide wingspan so beautiful I want to weep,
not a single eye shall remain dry,
my spirit, finally it is free.

    Micropoetry: Boldness – 24/08/21

    Be not bitter nor jaded
    but grateful, sublime
is this life we are living
if we don’t allow precious time
    to pass by, unrecognised
    unwanted,
    ambiguous truths be told,
    live a metamorphosis while
    your inner beauty becomes,
    be brave, take the reins,
    be bold.

    Poem: Celsius – 24/01/21

The heat takes to me as a tingle on my skin,
raised endorphins still allow the stinging in,
    I feel faint,
    this warmth I hate,
    others are grateful,
    the cool change I await.

Sweat begins to pool at the small of my back,
    the nape of my neck,
    I struggle,
    looking for relief,
    won’t the singeing rays abate?
    Temperamental, hissing under my breath,
I await, I await, the cool change yet.

    Some glorify this heat,
dancing in its smiles and welcoming arms,
    but I am grumpy, dehydrated,
    sulking,
    this heatwave,
    it is unwanted,
    won’t its ferocity become placid?

Perhaps I should be gracious and accept each passing moment,
to practice gratitude and be thankful because
    life’s for living,
and complaining simply isn’t worth it.

    Despite my discomfort,
    despite my dismay,
I throw my arms to the heavens and thank God for this day.

    Poem: Gratitude – 01/06/20

    Don’t force the moment,
    it’s time for reflection,
    a deep feeling of gratitude,
for who and what I have.

    So many years spent pining
    for this or that,
    a love, more friends,
    material possessions.

But what matters most are who
and what simple things we have,
such as that roof over our heads,
    warm food,
    a loving home.

    Loyal friends,
    kind words,
    things to be grateful for,
    our lives complete,
    faith restored.

    Of course, there can be
    things for which we yearn,
    but remember what we have,
    hold those things
    and others close,

    Be gracious,
    be thankful,
even if your words are whispered,
    even if they’re barely heard.

    For the warmth which will
    flourish within your soul,
    to love and to share,
    to give and to hold,

    It’s your story,
    your life,
    be ever thankful for the
    small and precious things,
    they’re what matter the most,
it’s what others have always told me.

  • Poem: Loved – 18/04/20

    Poem: Loved – 18/04/20

    Their presence lingers,
I am eternally grateful for the guidance
    that only Love can provide,
there is little more to be understood
that needs no wishes to be further sanctified.

    Because their devotion is pure,
warmer and lovelier as time goes on,
and I am appreciative of everything that has been performed,
    which has ever been done.

For, I am now the thankful being
    grown into the mould,
who has matured in the depths beyond
    left behind
from the blind ignorance of Youth,
which came with the temperamental haughtiness
of someone unknowing of truly what they had.

    I understand my luck,
my lottery win in this world,
to have such wonderful people in my life
    while others suffer,
    are maltreated,
    are unloved, or even
    abandoned.

I hear their words and actions speak,
    “I love you”
    time and time again,
the provision of special food on the table,
    their kind, empathetic words,
the joyous asking of how my day was,
    and I know,
    I know,
that one day this will come to an end,
but, by God, I am here,
    acknowledging, grateful,
    for everything I have.

My love for you will never cease,
    do you understand?
My voice trembles, tears threaten to flow,
I am finally showing true emotion,
    poignant and exact.

    My special ones,
    who know who they are,
please understand my truths and here,
accept them for all that they are:-
you do the same with all that I am,
    together we love,
    united we stand.

  • Poem: Gratitude – 02/02/20

    Poem: Gratitude – 02/02/20

    Priceless are those moments
where we smile and laugh, from ear to ear,
where each other’s company is appreciated
like lollipops in children’s playful but greedy hands
    we are sweetly loved
    we are tightly held dear.

    I appreciate them all,
    they are my world
    outside my private space,
    my personal world of everything
we are gathered around to share our stories
to know that we are loved.

    It goes without saying
that I can, I will, I do show them that I care
because in specific years I showed them that perhaps I really
    didn’t.

The enormous sense of welcoming to me
each time I felt and needed to come back
    a slow build to triumph,
the personal progress made mainly thanks to them.

    They caressed me,
    cotton-wool-balled my mind,
allowed me to sleep whenever required because
    time heals
    sleep heals
this is what I was always told,
thank you for permitting my return, my repeated infancy,
when I was struggling to crawl.

The most sentimental moments are those in which
I have the sense of family, love, and friends,
support is here in a structure that some aren't lucky enough
    to ever find.

I count myself one of the lucky,
I’ve been blessed with such care, concern, empathy,
that I must one day repay them is a given,
    sometimes their love is overwhelming.

  • Poem: Delighted – 25/12/19

    Poem: Delighted – 25/12/19

     I am delighted
     by the gift
     you gave to me,

     it’s not ordinary,
     it’s holy
     and it’s beautiful to me.

It’s something which sings of praises
     both far and wide,
a little figurine set, a nativity scene.

     I’ve never owned one before
though I know the tale well,
such beauty, adoring Mary, proud Joseph,
     fresh faced baby Jesus.

     It resonates within me,
     this miraculous scene,
three so alive in the arrival,
this is the true meaning of Christmas.
